TIGP Music Club performance in Welcome Party 2015

The TIGP New Student Welcome party was indeed a festive occasion. Not only did it help break the ice between junior and senior students but it was also a great occasion to rejoice. This was the time to get to know new people and begin, building long lasting friendships. This event was held on September 16th at the Humanity and Social Sciences building in Academia Sinica. This year the program offered again a musical opportunity to our music club and music lovers to give their musical performance during the dinner. Our music club cashed in on this golden opportunity and sung two group songs. Due to the summer vacation preceding this event, preparation was a challenge since we didn’t have much time to practice but finally with our hard work and effort, yeah… we made it.

OK, lets me introduce our Music club group!!! We have guitar class meeting which happen every other week. We have 6 people in group who are performing and 1 person behind the scene who actually our 1st master. They all are amazing friend and "co-workers". 1st is our first master Darwin, he is Filipino who give his time and effort to help this club grow from zero to the "hero". He had been teaching us from we know nothing until know at least we know something. He also was very patient teacher. 2nd member are our basses girls. We have 2 strong and amazing bass’s players, Silvia and Nia. I can say they are great fighters. They spend some time after their routinely work in lab. One thing which make me so touched was they did practice together at 10 p.m after their work. Also, Silvia who just came back from summer vacation was struggled with her jetlag but still can made it for our last practice. 3rd is our only gentleman in this group for now . He is our teacher, who was teaching us about discipline and precision. He made us have habit to tune our instrument with each other before start practicing. His eyes so powerful ( hahahha) if he look at us is mean we did something different with other or we are not in track or he give sign for us to start. Hahah.. No,,No,, actually, his staring is actually encouragement for us. He also who help us to develop our strumming skill and vocal skill. 4th are two girls with very amazing voice and melody skill. They are Lee-ya and Jen, yeah they are also co-worker in lab. Sometimes (secretly) they also practice in lab. Jen is also our good advisor, they really help us to rearrangement our song and help Ravi to figure out some problem of us. Lee-ya is very good student hahaha, when she can’t attend our meeting, she still practiced by herself even in work day. When she attended the meeting she can catch everything quickly. You two are really powerful girls.

Our practice time was very valuable as we got to know each other better and also practice values of discipline and commitment. First practice; when we choose the song, everyone just say ohh I couldn't sing along with playing. Finally we ask Nia Santos to sing whole song during the practice. Even then, actually I really believed to them that their vocal as good as their guitar skill. Yeah, I remembered also how we fight with typhoons only for not missing the practice time. Our preparation was so perfect, we already talked about costume like 2 or 3 weeks before performance, checked all stuff we needed, positions. Things which made really touched is our rehearsal day, we can made it really on time. These year practices really improve my time management also. Thanks guys, I learned a lot from you.

When the performance day came we felt quite nervous, excited, stress but thankfully our performance went very well. There were many nice things that came as a result of our performance such as a delicious dinner, a beautiful gift from the Academia Sinica, new member, and the important I saw this club really grow. This occasion was a really awesome experience that I’ll think about fondly for the rest of my life.
